Link Building Juice - Is This the Lifeblood of a Blog?

When Google and the other search engines are sending their spiders out crawling through cyberspace, they are looking for all kinds of info on everyone's website to try and figure out who has got the most important site so they can rank it, amongst all the other sites out there.

This is my understanding of how it all works, from a non techie point of view, as follows.

They are looking at relevancy as the main criteria, ie - is the content on the site relevant to the name of the site, and if it is it gets a tick. If it isn't relevant then it doesn't get a tick, maybe even a black mark if it's not relevant in any way. Obviously it's important to build lots of relevant content into your site, and it's very important that the content is original, Google doesn't like duplicate content.

Links to and from the site are a major factor they are looking at, and so getting links back to your site from other relevant sites is really important.

So how do you do this? Can you simply call all the top sites up, wish them a good day, and ask them to put a link back to your brand new site? Hmmm, I don't think this will work very well, but you never know, no harm in asking.

There are however some definite ways that you can get links back, and it's important to know that not all links are equal in value. Google will place more value on a link back from a high ranking site than it will from a very low ranking site. Obviously try to get links back from sites with higher ranking in Google's eyes, and they will benefit you more.

Here are a few ways to get links.

Write articles and place on article directory sites such as EzineArticles. You have a link in your author box under the article straight back to your site. Google loves these links, because the goal of the search engines is to find information, and that's what EzineArticles (and other article directories) provide.

Find some.gov or.edu sites which have blogs where you can post and leave a comment with your link back. But remember it needs to be relevant. This is not an easy task, finding these sites, but worthwhile to try and get a few, each link is worth a lot of minor links. Your comments should add some value, don't just say something cheap like "good post".

Find other peoples blogs who have related subjects to yours and post comments on their blogs, as long as they have "do follow" links (in other words they are not - "do not follow"- links which are no good to you). You can find blogs by searching with your keywords and "blog" at the end.

Try this little trick:

Type in Google:- "keyword" + "dofollow blog"

Once you find blogs where you can post, don't overdo it, make one post a day per blog at most, and spread your posts around several blogs.

Remember to keep on posting and writing articles every week, it's an ongoing strategy that will build your links and credibility.
